About Pedro el Poeta
Born in Managua, Nicaragua, Pedro was born with poetry laced into his bloodstream. At an
early age some of his family members began calling him “Darillito,” after the great Nicaraguan poet
Rubén Darío. Pedro and his family fled to the United States in a harrowing journey when he was 7 to escape civil war. He grew up in the Washington D.C. area and has since spent most of his life on stage. Coming to
the US, he learned English by listening to Rap and Hip Hop artists, like Bone Thugs N Harmony, and others
setting the foundation for his seemingly effortless rhythmical freestyle future.
HIP-HOP & Poetry
Pedro has a long history of spoken word accomplishments for his age, although he
seamlessly made his way into a more Hip Hop-focused career in 2008. El Poeta has performed for
theatres, radio stations, art galleries, coffee shops, bars and clubs in DC, Colorado, Maine, Florida,
Europe, and Nicaragua. Currently, Pedro can be seen making guest appearances around Florida while
preparing for the release of his new album “Street Reporter: Mixtape”. The new cd will feature
several different producers from Tampa Bay, including Lance “The Legend” Quinn (Bong Jovi's first two albums, etc.) and will tell true
tales from the street. Pedro’s style has been compared to that of Eminem, Immortal Technique, Tupac,
Sage Francis, and other greats.
